The Saintgits Sahyadri Nature Club organized a captivating webinar on the topic “Winged
Wonders: Exploring the World of Butterflies” on 24th July 2025 at 8:00 PM, conducted via
Google Meet. The session featured Dr. Lekha Susan Jacob, Assistant Professor (Special) and
Head of the Department of Mathematics, as the distinguished resource person.
The event commenced with a warm welcome and brief introduction of the speaker by
Sreedevi S (S5 Volunteer Secretary), Adithyakrishna A (S5 Volunteer Secretary) also
highlighted the objective of the session – to foster awareness and appreciation for butterflies
and their ecological significance.
Dr. Lekha Susan Jacob then led an engaging and informative session, delving into the
fascinating world of butterflies. She discussed various aspects including their life cycle,
species diversity, behavior, adaptations, and the critical role they play in pollination and
maintaining biodiversity. She also highlighted threats to butterfly populations due to habitat
loss and climate change, emphasizing the need for conservation and citizen science
initiatives.
